PHYSICAL THERAPY

Physical therapy (PT) is care that aims to ease pain and help you function, move, and live better. You may need it to relieve pain, improve movement, or as a way to increase to your general ability to function. This practice can also prevent or aid in recovery from a sports injury.

Dr. Amanda Flowers-Ingham is passionate about teaching patients how to prevent or manage their condition so that they will achieve long-term health benefits. Her pre-visit consultation examines each individual and customizes a plan, using various treatment techniques to promote the ability to move, reduce pain, restore function, and prevent disability.

Dry Needling is a treatment technique physical therapists use to help with pain and movement restrictions. The treatment uses a solid filament needle that penetrates into muscle or tissue to stimulate trigger points and connective tissue.  A trigger point is a spasm within a muscle that is usually tender to the touch and causes pain in different areas of the body. Trigger points develop in muscle for various reasons including overuse, inflammation, injury or other causes. The needle causes the mechanical stimulation of the muscle by producing a local twitch or rapid release of the muscle. After the release, the muscle activity dramatically reduces resulting in relaxation and a decrease in pain and dysfunction. The decrease in pain is related to the removal of muscular compression on joint, nerve and vascular tissue. It is theorized that dry needling also creates a new healing process.
